Every New Year’s Day I’m invited for lunch at the home of a Parsi(Zoroastrian) friend where she cooks a typical Parsi dish  which is  dhansak. Every Parsi family has its  own secret, jealously  guarded  recipe handed down from generation to generation and no dhansak tastes the same! It’s  predominantly lentils   and can be combined with  lamb or chicken ( or you can  have a vegetarian dhansak) and other exotic ingredients and  is  served with wild brown rice and kuchambar – a delicious salad.  My friend  also made a divine carrot chutney and the melding of flavours was simply perfection.
